It's been a while

I haven't written a post here in ages.  Mainly that was the last year of undergrad getting to me followed by a transition to graduate school and a new blog:

Maybe I'll come back over here at some point, but who knows.

$85 bathroom

5 bedroom, 2 bathroom house looking for 6th roommate to live in spacious bathroom. Your rent will be used to cover most utility costs, so your payments will vary from $75 to $100 per month. Since we began hosting our local bible study at our home, we've noticed an increase in utility costs and could really use some help. We have a blowup mattress available for the tub, there is a window with view of our driveway, and small closet for your belongings. We just ask that you be out of the bathroom by 10 am for others to shower... except on the weekends! Also, be open to the possibility that somebody may need to use the facilities while you're sleeping... don't be alarmed - we all have to poop =)

Life's been crazy...

Just trying to graduate, finish my thesis and decide where I'll be living next year.

I still haven't decided where I'm going to graduate school, but I'm having fun on Craigslist and thought I would share.

Victory

I've declared victory over my computer.  It only took 2+ hours, but it now knows it has a printer and will even print to it.  And hp-setup and I are in a truce and I vaguely remember the random internet location where I found my PPD file.

Really, I hate companies that don't produce hardware with Linux support.  You gave me installation CDs for Windows and Mac, would it have been so hard to have one for Linux?

That's one battle won, but there's still a whole war to wage.  8-bit mode, xgterms, flash plug-ins, soundcard, the list goes on and on of things I need to get to work.  But if functions as is, so I'll worry about it as need be.

Question of the day.

When a physics professor says "I should stop talking now," why does it always mean that there's at least five more minutes of lecture?

Bouncy Castle!

Bouncy Castle!

We had a party with a bouncy castle. Much, much, much fun. The thing weighed a ton though. Okay, only about 300 lbs, but that was still a lot to manhandle. I managed to set it up myself somehow, but Betsy, Keef, Michael and Stephen gave much help in packing it back up and getting into my car.

It was a good evening. Food, beer, and friends - not much more to ask for. The fights with the pool noodles were much fun. If you missed it, you shouldn't be so lame.

I'm back!

In Bloomington that is.  More specifically, I'm back in Swain 311 right now, and I have to say I feel like I've really come home now.

I've been up to a lot the last two weeks or so and quite busy.

Last Monday was talks for the summer research program in Hawaii, so I spent the week trying to get that put together and start packing and spending time with friends before I left.  I had quite a lot going on most evenings.  A super enjoyable evening was a going away party for a post doc who had a job back in France.  Let's just say that happy hour really is happy hour.  Well, two hours actually.  And three martinis.  That Saturday I spent on a houseboat that was built by a family friend of one of the program students.  A nice relaxing day on the water with an ample supply of beer.

I gave my talk last Monday and it went fairly well.  I did a little bit of work after that, but not much.  Wednesday morning I went skydiving.  That was amazing.  Then I hopped on a plane that afternoon to head back to the mainland.  And managed to miss security hassles from hell by being in the air when the arrests were made in London.

I went to Lake Michigan with my sister once I was home, and it was cold.  I know the lake's cold, but it's colder than I remember.  And according to my sister, colder than when she was in it earlier in the year.  It was still beautiful though.  I went to a friend's wedding while home. It was weird to see everyone from highschool.  And there was no alcohol at the reception, boo.

Well, I'm back in Bloomington now and happy.  Even if my cat does hate me.  I'm not sure that it's hate, maybe abject terror would be a better description.

And my hair is short and purple.

I'm happy.

I have a new phone!

A new old phone to be exact, but it's new to me.

And it has the added advantage that I can turn it on.

The disadvantage?  The phone book doesn't have any numbers in it.  My number's still the same, but I've lost everyone's number.

The current plan - back in Btown on Sunday sometime.

Will there be couch space for me, Betsy?
